Climate Change, Energy Transition and Sustainable Development

The track aims to analyze global processes to combat climate change, with an emphasis on the energy transition for sustainable development. The discussion focuses on the current debate on reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting renewable energy sources.

This track addresses the importance of environmental protection and the preservation of biodiversity, including forests, indigenous territories and marine ecosystems. The track also works on important theories such as climate justice and social inclusion, seeking to integrate vulnerable populations into climate policies to ensure that they are comprehensive and beneficial to all layers of society.

Mahryan Sampaio Rodrigues

Brazilian delegate at Y20 on the track

“The Y20 represents an opportunity to amplify the voices of youth, so diverse among themselves, who have the mission of discussing and generating recommendations for the heads of state of the G20 countries. In the thematic axis of “Climate Change, Energy Transition and Sustainable Development”, we recognize the importance of linking social and environmental issues, protecting the planet and ensuring the well-being of all people. Our development must be capable of meeting the needs of the current generation, without compromising the needs of future generations. Therefore, this is a space to discuss and articulate policies for climate adaptation and mitigation, environmental education, forest conservation, biodiversity protection, fair energy transition, training and generation of green jobs, assistance to climate displaced people and combating environmental racism, contributing with effective analyses and solutions. In this global discussion, we will have the responsibility to place the most affected people and vulnerable territories at the center of our actions, such as favelas, quilombos, indigenous lands and traditional communities, understanding that climate justice is achieved with popular participation, encouragement of science and a lot of political will, without leaving anyone behind.”

Data Panel - Y20 Tracks

Throughout the Y20 Brazil 2024 process, the importance of diagnosing global challenges and developing evidence-based public policies were some of our guiding principles. From this perspective, we built, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), a systematization of indicators related to the 5 priority axes of discussion of Y20 in the context of the Brazilian Presidency of the G20.
