He is Chair of Youth20 (Y20) – Official G20 Youth Engagement Group and Former President of the National Youth Council of Brazil. He was Coordinator of Atlas das Juventudes (www.atlasdasjuventudes.com.br) and Juventudes do Agora (www.juventudesdoagora.com.br), as well as Speaker and Consultant on the topic of youth and public youth policies. He has 17 years of experience working with young people in Brazil and in different parts of the world.
In 2021 he was appointed as one of the 07 Global Ambassadors (and the only Brazilian) of UBUNTU UNITED NATIONS, an initiative chaired by José Ramos Horta, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, which still has the high sponsorship of the Secretary General of the United Nations , to empower, inspire and mobilize young people in 193 countries around the world.
During his career, he participated in the construction, articulation and mobilization of the National Youth Conference, which in total, in its stages, mobilized around 600,000 young people from across the country. He was one of the creators and coordinated the Youth and Coronavirus Pandemic Survey, which between 2020 and 2022 mobilized and listened to more than 118,000 young people from across the country. He was also one of the creators and coordinators of programs such as Juventude Empreendedora, which trained young people in several countries such as Guinea-Bissau, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Portugal and has already reached more than 49,000 young people in 1,888 cities from all regions of Brazil.
He was President of the Brazilian Confederation of Junior Companies, General Coordinator of the World Conference of Junior Companies, National Coordinator of Partnerships and Impact Opportunities of the Entrepreneurial Alliance, Consultant to UNESCO and the National Youth Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic on the topic of youth policies , member of the Curator Committee of Globo's MENOS30FEST, of the Editorial Board of Cadernos Globo, of the Board of the LED Movement – Light in Education, of the Board of Mapa Educação and consultant for mobilization strategies of Co.Liga, an initiative of the Roberto Marinho Foundation and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture.
At an international level, Marcus Barão was President of the Youth Forum of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, is a member of the Council of the International Youth Organization for Ibero-America, was a member of the Steering Committee of the World Conference of Ministers of Youth, was a member of the UN Youth Advisory Group and the GT on Youth and SDGs of the RIO+/UNDP Center. He was Brazil's Official Delegate to BRICS, G20, CPLP, UN Youth Dialogues, the World Festival of Youth and Students and the UN Economic and Social Council's Youth Forum. As a speaker, he has spoken to more than 50,000 young people in different parts of the world.
